Chill Out Zone

Kinder Milk Slice is a cool treat that can be found in the chilled isle. To celebrate this different way to top up tummies, we have teamed up with Kinder to launch a new Chill Out Zone, to give you and your little ones some great ideas to help you chill out together.

After School

This can be a trying time of the day, the homework is done and the kids are looking for something to do. Why not get them involved with the dinner preparations? Our mums have recommended these simple recipes to inspire your little one in the kitchen.

1. Mini pitta pizzas

Your kids will just love helping with these pizzas (especially the toppings) Add any other toppings you fancy just as you would on a real pizza; peppers, olives, sweetcorn, onion, the list is endless! Use the toppings to make cute faces that your kids will adore. For full details, click here

2. Mixed chocolate and nut bars

Not sure what to do with all of the broken biscuits, remnant of nuts or dried fruit lying around, then this is the ideal treat. They taste just delicious also. For full details, click here

3. Nutella spirals

Kids will love these chocolatey spirals as a treat after school! They are super easy to make and the kids will also love cleaning the nutella spoons clean. For full details, click here

Ask the kids to choose the fruit they would like to use and get them to fill the cups. Stock up on fun colour jellies to create crazy deserts the kids will just love. For full details, click here

5. Easy chocolate cupcakes

These light cakes are so easy to make and the kids will love them. Put the kids in charge of decoration and let their imagination run wild. For full details, click here

6. S’more sandwich

These s'more sandwiches are really simple to make – the perfect after dinner treat. The kids will just adore them and also love the construction process. For full details, click here

Rainy Days

Bad weather days can pose huge challenges for mums, as they attempt to entertain children with cabin fever. There is nothing better than pulling the currents over, staying in your pyjama’s and putting on your favourite family film. Here are some MummyPages mums favourite films.

1. Tangled

Tangled sees the return of the classic Disney Princess movie, but changes the traditional structure so that it can appeal to the whole family, instead of just little girls who wear plastic tiaras and glittery, puffy dresses. For full details, click here

2. E.T.

2. Most mums will remember watching ‘E.T.’ as children and this classic is still a huge hit with kids, so indulge in an afternoon of nostalgia. A great story about friendship, family and flying bicycles, this is definitely one for the family DVD collection. For full details, click here

3. Toy Story

3. Toy Story follows the adventures of the toys who belong to a boy named Andy. The toys all enjoy a simple, happy life until Andy gets a very special birthday present: a toy spaceman named Buzz Lightyear. For full details, click here

4. Babe

When visiting a pet farm, the main attractions tend to be cute little rabbits, waddling geese or hyper puppies - not pigs. This touching tale of a piglet who wants to be a Sheep-Pig is both sweet and engaging. Your kids might refuse ham sandwiches for a few weeks after though so have some tuna ready just in case. For full details, click here

5. Mary Poppins

5. This movie may have set ridiculously high standards for child-minders across the world, but ‘Mary Poppins’ is a colourful, chirpy movie with great songs that the whole family can sing along to. You cannot help but fall in love with Julie Andrews and the songs, such as ‘A Spoon Full of Sugar’ and ‘Chim Chim Cheree’, will be stuck in your head for days after.  For full details, click here

6. How to Train your Dragon

This heartwarming animated film takes place in a mythical Viking world where a young Viking teenager named Hiccup aspires to follow his tribe's tradition of becoming a dragon slayer. After finally capturing his first dragon, he finds that he can't bring himself to kill it and instead they start a friendship that will change their lives forever. For full details, click here

No School

While mums love spending time with their kids, it can be a full-time job to keep them entertained during weekend and holidays. The perfect past-time is for your little ones to get animated reading their favourite book. Here are some great books your children will love.

1. Corduroy by Don Freeman

1. For any child who has dreamed of having a shopping centre to themselves, Corduroy is the book for them. This cute bear has lots of adventures whilst searching for his lost button in an empty shopping centre. For full details, click here

2. Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram

2. A sweet tale of two Nutbrown hares who both ask each other the question “Guess How Much I Love You?” The two hares then go onto to use larger and larger measures to quantify how much they love each other. For full details, click here

3. The Paper Bay Princess by Robert N. Munsch

3. After a fire breathing dragon burns down Elizabeth’s castle and kidnaps her one true love, Prince Ronald, she grabs a paper bag for a dress and decides to go rescue him. This has been lauded as one of the best children's books ever written and once your child reads it, you will see what the fuss is about. For full details, click here

4. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

4. One of the best children's stories ever written and it's perfect for boys and girls of any age. When poor Charlie Bucket and four other children wins a coveted golden ticket to be shown around Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, well behaved Charlie blossoms while the other children receive suitably sticky punishments. For full details, click here

5. The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton

Lots of us will remember being fascinated by this delightful series written by Enid Blyton about a magical tree in the middle of an enchanted forest. The tree is filled with fantastical creatures including Silkie, The Saucepan Man and Moonface and best of all, different lands come to rest on top of the tree, like The Land of Birthdays and The Land of Tempers! For full details, click here

6. The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy

6. Every child loves tales of magic and witches, but Harry Potter isn’t your only choice. This magical classic features the most disaster prone witch you could imagine, Mildred Hubble. Every spell she tries goes awry and lands her in hot water – lots of fun for little ones. For full details, click here

Out and about

What a better way to keep the kids amused, gather up old toilet rolls, shoeboxes and mugs and keep the children amused for hours creating and playing their very own games.

1. Shoebox doll house

Girls can never have enough dolls, they can spend hours playing with them. Why not encourage your little one to create the perfect doll house for her dolls to hang out. All you need is old shoe boxes, paper, string, scissors, tape and paste. For full details, click here

2. Indoor forts

All kids love the idea of creating their own fort and hide-away from their parents. All you need is some couch cushions, books, blankets, toy swords and toy guns. The kids will have hours of fun. For full details, click here

3. Toilet roll crafts

Provide your little ones with toilet roll inserts and craft supplies and encourage them to make whatever they can think of. Once they’ve finished making their cute creations, they can then invent a game around them. For full details, click here

4. The I love you mug

5. Handprint pirates

Cut some black paper into the shape of a pirate hat and paint a skull and cross bone on it. Paint your child’s hands and press them onto the white card. Leave to dry. On the brown part, draw an eye patch with black marker and stick on the googly eye. Paint a thick red line on top of the brown part to create the headscarf and glue the hat just above the red line. Add a mouth and admire your creation. For full details, click here

6. Paper boat

Get one sheet of newspaper and fold it in half. Fold it again just to create a crease and unfold it again. Fold down the top corners of the unopened end. You will be left with about an inch at the end of the newly formed triangle. Turn one side up over the triangle and turn it around to do this on the other side. Fold in the bottom corners that are sticking out on either side of the triangle. Fold your triangle again so that it looks like a diamond. Gently pull the sides apart and you have a boat. For full details, click here
