GIVE YOUR FAMILY A CHANCE TO BE CAVITY FREE.

Coming into contact with hidden sugars in food is unavoidable, however there are some handy tips that can help you and your family avoid the damage that can be caused by sugars. For the hidden sugars that cannot be avoided, try using Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ - The 1st and only toothpaste with Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ that fights the No.1 cause of cavities.

Food

Encourage healthy food choices and limit sugary snacks for your little one to prevent dental decay and dental erosion. Wait at least one hour before brushing after eating meals or snacks.

Drink

Always choose water over fizzy acidic drinks for the whole family to avoid dental decay and dental erosion.

Snacking

Limit between-meal snacking to reduce the amount of time your teeth are exposed to acid. If you snack, choose foods that are not fermentable carbohydrates like cheese, chicken or other meats, nuts or milk.

Brushing

Supervise your child’s brushing at least twice a day for two minutes each time. The ideal toothbrush will have a small head and soft nylon bristles and be sure to replace it every two to three months. Use a pea sized amount of toothpaste after the child’s 3rd birthday.

Visit the dentist

Bring your child to the dentist before their first birthday and discuss the introduction of fluoride toothpaste and general dental hygiene routine. Establish yearly visits from there on, or as often as the dentist recommends.

How do cavities develop?

Cavities can occur on any mineralised tooth surface where plaque bacteria exist and produce acids from dietary sugar. These acids start to dissolve or demineralise the tooth enamel leading to the first signs of damage (reversible at this stage) and ultimately, if left untreated, to structural loss in our enamel (holes in the tooth).

Cavities develop over time starting as early lesions and progressing to become full-blown cavities. However, if detected and cared for early enough in the process, this progression can be stopped.
New Colgate® Maximum Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ is the first and only toothpaste that contains our Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ technology that fights sugar acids in plaque - #1 cause of cavities.

How does it work?

Sugar contained in many food accumulates in the dental plaque.

Bacteria in the plaque convert these into sugar acids that can damage tooth enamel, eventually causing cavities.

SUGAR ACID NEUTRALISER™ TECHNOLOGY IN OUR TOOTHPASTE CAN NEUTRALISE THESE SUGAR ACIDS, SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCING ITS EFFECT. IT IS CLINICALLY PROVEN TO PROVIDE CLOSE TO DOUBLE THE PROTECTION AGAINST EARLY DECAY VS A REGULAR FLUORIDE TOOTHPASTE*
